Vintage Inspired Wallpaper
For some reason I have been dreaming of wall paper, the kind that is colourful, full of pattern with that all important retro twist. And would you believe it, they have a fantastic collection over at John Lewis which I just had to share it with you!
I can not wait to have walls of my own one day that I can decorate with all kinds of beautiful patterns. Oh, retro inspired wall paper, I do love you so.

Egg Cups
Do you have any plans for this Easter weekend? I am working for the majority of it (but I'm sure I will manage to fit in eating the raspberry and pecan chocolate Easter egg that is currently sat on the side staring at me!). I wanted to do an Easter related post but I realise I have probably left it too late to give you tips on decorating your home. Instead I have decided to show you some items that are perfect all your round, but could be dressed up for Easter.....the humble egg cup.
For Easter you can fill them with painted eggs or why not try some miniature flowers as a centre piece at your Easter Sunday meal (although with this weather any flowers will probably be hibernating until summer). The rest of the year they can be used for that fantastic breakfast/brunch of boiled eggs and soldiers.

Art Deco Stoves
Myself and the hubby have been dreaming of one day having a wood burning stove when we finally get a house of our own, and with this cold weather the want is getting greater and greater. They are meant to be really energy efficient and lets be honest look fab in a fire place. But as is usual with myself and the hubby we are always looking for something that bit different from the norm.
That's when we found The French Antique Stove Co. Living and working in France this company supplies restored stoves to the UK market. And if the beauties above are anything to go by then we will definitely be contacting them in the future.

Shade on Shape
I have discovered a lovely little shop on etsy that has some very eye catching things for sale.
Shade on Shape have gone for a very bold design style with that touch of retro and vintage which I just can't resist. Their choice of colour combinations is gorgeous! Their range is small at the moment, but I will be very interested in seeing how their products grow in the future. In the mean time, $19 for that Home Sweet Home print is looking very tempting!

Pancake Day
I confess, we haven't had any pancakes!!!
I am ashamed and horrified at myself. The fact I have pancakes most weekends does not matter, it is pancake day and pancakes should be eaten. And if I was making them today these are the items I would want to accessorise my cooking.
The reason for our lack of pancakes? When I returned home from work today I found my hubby had brought home a stray cat. The poor little thing had almost been run over (rescued my the hubby in a heroic act) only 8 months old, dirty, smelly and starving. We cleaned it up gave it some water and food and took it to the vets. It was left with the vets to recover and they will now try and find the owners or re-house it. It was very strange to have a little life so dependent on us. It meant we spent most of the evening giving it lots of attention, knocking on neighbours doors and ringing animal rescue people. I think we will have to treat ourselves to pancakes tomorrow for our good deed.

Vladimir Tretchikoff's paintings have become synonym with style of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Any decent retro home normally has a piece of Tretchikoff in it somewhere, normally a reproduction printed on a tea towel or mug (or is that just me?!).

The contrast between the gold gown and the blue complexion have made this particular piece one of Tretchikoff's most popular paintings. 2013 Goals
Over the Christmas period I have been doing an e-course on successfully building and running your own Dream Job in creative industries, courtesy of Red Velvet. I'm sure I have mentioned Red Velvet before, but for any that don't know, it is a small but successful vintage boutique, sweet shoppe and clothing label based in the US.
One of the pieces of advice they give in their e-course is to set yourself goals each year to give your self something to aim for, and incorporate the goals into your calender. I wanted to set myself some ambitious goals for the business and some personal goals as well, as we have to remember all work and no play makes me very dull. Over the last few weeks I have been having a good think about what these goals should be and I thought I would share them with you.
Of course setting yourself goals is no fun unless you have some kind of reward system - for the smaller more achievable goals I'm thinking a new book and for the bigger harder goals I buy myself a lovely new item of clothing. I really recommend setting some goals of your own as it can help keep you focused throughout the year. Some of my goals are a bit silly but I think it is important to have some silly thrown in as well.

Foot Stools
I felt a little bit guilty yesterday about teasing you with my new gorgeous footstool. To compensate I have found some fab ones currently for sale. With winter looking set to stay for a while a comfy chair, blanket, cup of tea, good book and sturdy foot stool is a must.

Treat Yourself to a Magazine Subscription!
January can be a very dull month....
I actually never find it dull as I got together with my other half in January so have our anniversary and my birthday is at the end of it. Plus, this year I am getting married in January!
...but I understand for the rest of you money tends to get a bit tight and there is not a huge amount to look forward to. My suggestion is, if you happen to have a little money left over from all the festivities, why not treat yourself to a magazine subscriptions. It means every month you get a little treat through the door, giving you a great opportunity to spend a little 'me' time reading with a cup of coffee.

Gift Ideas: The Unexpected Guest
There are always those occasions when you get a last minute guest come to visit, or you recieve a present from someone else and need to find something quick. These are 4 suggestions that you can keep in the cupboard, just in case. Some would also be ideal if you need a secret Santa present or if the kids need something for school friends.
KILNER JAR FILLED WITH SWEETS
This is one of my favrouite things to give as a Christmas present. I would get a gorgeous vintage jar and fill it with some colourful sweets such as jelly beans. I have to say I have done this with other containers; just last year I filled a butter dish and a glass flour shaker with sweets. You can always find out the persons favourite sweets and fill the jar exclusively with those. Lemon sherbets in mine please!
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
One year our work place did secret Santa slightly differently. Rather than pulling names out of a hat we all had a budget of £5 and had to buy something that was suitable for all. All the presents were put into a sack and we had to pick one out at our work Christmas meal. I bought a vintage copy of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol and a box of chocolates (I secretly hoped I would pick my own present!). It sounds a bit silly but since then, I have started buying vintage copies of A Christmas Carol whenever I find one. You can also find lovely modern reprints and they make a nice neutral present. Why not go completely modern and get a Christmas DVD - my favourite has to be Santa Claus: The Movie.
BOARD GAMES
It may seem a bit cheesy but board games are an essential part of Christmas. You can find absolutely gorgeous vintage games, which add a bit of quirkiness but you can always buy modern versions. They are good family fun, work really well for secret Santa and if you end up not giving them away, you can play them yourself!
SIMPLE FOOD GIFT HAMPERS
As a nice alternative to all the Christmas food why not make up a pasta kit; a colander, a bag of dried pasta and a jar of home-made pesto. This idea can be adapted to a range of different foods. Why not try a wooden chopping board, a selection of cheeses and some home-made oatcakes. Or how about the simplest suggestion - a small muslin bag filled with cloves, star anise, dried orange peel and cinnamon. Attach it to a bottle of red wine with a fresh orange and written instructions for making mulled wine. The great thing about these gifts are, you probably already have the items in your cupboard!

This is for the quieter member of your circle. The one who is content to curl up and get lost in a good book. This personality is me. If I got this set for Christmas I would be very happy.
You can always adapt this set depending on the age and taste of the recepient. A kid would get just as much enjoyment from this Christmas present as any adult. For kids you could swap the blanket for a cuddly toy or a set of pyjamas. Maybe even throw in a jar of hot chocolate as a special treat. There is nothing better when you are little than to curl up in bed, with a nice hot drink and to be read a great bed-time story.

Gift Ideas: The Caffeine Addict
I think this type of individual needs no explanation - simply, they are obsessed with tea or coffee.
Although this set is perfect for the coffee or tea lover amongst you, it is actually a very safe present for someone you don't know very well such as a work-place secret Santa. All you have to do is check that they drink coffee or tea and specialise the present for them; some nice ground coffee, a cafetiere, a mug and some nice biscuits for dunking or some loose leaf tea, a tea infuser, a tea cup and some more biscuits.
